38 Hurstmere opened as a temporary public space since early April 2019. Since then we have held workshops, performances and creative events with the community. Here’s an insight into some of what has happened in the heart of Takapuna in this ‘pop-up’ space.

Cara     is well known for her busking performances in Takapuna. She performed at the  Youth Arts New Zealand  showcase of Young Musicians in May 2019 on the public piano that now lives in the blue container.  This piano was gifted to the public space and painted by three artists who designed their artwork based on Takapuna’s unique environment with Lake Pupuke, Takapuna Beach and Rangitoto. Youth Arts New Zealand orchestrated the public piano project and facilitated numerous events for young musicians at 38 Hurstmere in May and June 2019.

Ukulele Union  filled the site with sunshine and happy tunes. Ukulele Union is comprised of two North Shore groups:  The Shorecooleles  and  Hibiscus Ukes .

Chewy Wilson works nearby 38 Hurstmere at  PHAB . As well as his work alongside the community, he also runs  Rhythm For The Soul . Chewy had us drumming, dancing, playing and exploring connection through drumming together on a sunny afternoon.
